Embedded Support
Steady Hands provides embedded, production-aligned wellbeing and performance support throughout film, television, theatre, touring, and live events.
Working alongside producers, department heads, cast, crew, and existing support personnel, embedded support helps teams navigate demanding schedules, emotionally intensive material, and the everyday pressures of production without disrupting workflow.
Every production is different. Embedded support is tailored to the unique needs, pace, and goals of each project.
Why Not Just Hire An Intimacy Coordinator?
The two roles are not interchangeable—they address different needs and can work alongside one another when appropriate.
Intimacy coordinators play an essential role in productions involving intimate content, helping establish boundaries, consent practices, and safety during those specific scenes.
Steady Hands serves a different function.
While intimacy coordinators focus on moments of intimate performance, Steady Hands provides broader production wellbeing and performance support throughout the filming process. This can include emotionally demanding material, performance pressure, long shooting days, transitions between scenes, fatigue, and overall cast and crew wellbeing.
Mentally Healthy Productions Are Becoming Industry Infrastructure
Production wellbeing isn't a future trend—it's becoming part of how sustainable productions operate around the world.
Across film, television, theatre, touring, and live entertainment, organizations are developing research, practical frameworks, and industry standards that recognize supporting people is essential to supporting the production itself.
Steady Hands is informed by this growing body of work and reflects many of the same principles being advanced by organizations such as
The Film and TV Charity, 6ft From the Spotlight, Screen Well (Australia),
and other initiatives advancing mentally healthy production practices.
Industry Resources
The following resources, developed by The Film and TV Charity, have helped inform industry conversations around production wellbeing and mentally healthy productions.
-
• A script includes emotionally demanding material
• The production schedule is unusually intense
• Young or emerging performers need additional support
• Leadership wants to proactively strengthen communication and wellbeing
• The team would benefit from embedded production support rather than outside referrals
-
Every production is different.
Support typically begins with an initial consultation to understand your production, schedule, team, and goals.
From there we determine:
• whether embedded support is appropriate
• which days or phases would benefit most
• how communication will be coordinated
• how support integrates into the existing production workflow
-
No.
Steady Hands is a non-clinical production support service—not psychotherapy or mental health treatment.
Support focuses on emotional regulation, performance wellbeing, communication, and sustainable production practices.
When someone needs clinical care, they are encouraged to connect with appropriate mental health resources.
-
Some productions benefit from support during a handful of emotionally demanding filming days, while others choose embedded support throughout prep, production, or wrap.
Services are tailored to the size, schedule, and needs of each project.
Embedded support is collaborative rather than supervisory.
The role is designed to support existing production leadership—not replace it—and integrates with the team's established workflow.
