Embedded Support

Steady Hands provides embedded, production-aligned wellbeing and performance support throughout film, television, theatre, touring, and live events.

Working alongside producers, department heads, cast, crew, and existing support personnel, embedded support helps teams navigate demanding schedules, emotionally intensive material, and the everyday pressures of production without disrupting workflow.

Every production is different. Embedded support is tailored to the unique needs, pace, and goals of each project.

Why Not Just Hire An Intimacy Coordinator?

The two roles are not interchangeable—they address different needs and can work alongside one another when appropriate.

Intimacy coordinators play an essential role in productions involving intimate content, helping establish boundaries, consent practices, and safety during those specific scenes.

Steady Hands serves a different function.

While intimacy coordinators focus on moments of intimate performance, Steady Hands provides broader production wellbeing and performance support throughout the filming process. This can include emotionally demanding material, performance pressure, long shooting days, transitions between scenes, fatigue, and overall cast and crew wellbeing.

Mentally Healthy Productions Are Becoming Industry Infrastructure

Production wellbeing isn't a future trend—it's becoming part of how sustainable productions operate around the world.

Across film, television, theatre, touring, and live entertainment, organizations are developing research, practical frameworks, and industry standards that recognize supporting people is essential to supporting the production itself.

Steady Hands is informed by this growing body of work and reflects many of the same principles being advanced by organizations such as

and other initiatives advancing mentally healthy production practices.

Industry Resources

The following resources, developed by The Film and TV Charity, have helped inform industry conversations around production wellbeing and mentally healthy productions.

Embedded support is collaborative rather than supervisory.

The role is designed to support existing production leadership—not replace it—and integrates with the team's established workflow.

Inside A Day On Set

Embedded support is designed to fit the production—not slow it down.

  • Before Call

    • Meet briefly with production leadership as needed

    • Check in with cast or crew preparing for demanding scenes

    • Coordinate any planned support for the day

    During Production

    • Quiet, unobtrusive availability throughout filming

    • Grounding and emotional regulation support when requested

    • Flexible support during schedule changes, delays, or unexpected challenges

    Before High-Pressure Moments

    • Brief preparation before emotionally demanding scenes

    • Support performers navigating difficult material

    • Help maintain focus and regulation without disrupting workflow

    After Demanding Scenes

    • Opportunity for brief decompression

    • Help performers transition between emotionally intense work and the next setup

    • Coordinate with leadership if additional support may be helpful

    End of Day

    • Check in with individuals or departments when appropriate

    • Identify any follow-up needs

    • Prepare for upcoming production days if support is continuing

Some days require very little support.

Others may involve more preparation, check-ins, or decompression depending on the material, production schedule, and needs of the team.

Embedded support is designed to adapt to the production—not the other way around.
